I recently got a message in a Facebook group saying “Dropshipping just doesn't work.” So I'm going to talk about why it may not have worked for them and why it doesn't work for some people who try this business model.
Â
So the claim is that dropshipping doesn't work. Obviously, I disagree. But there are a number of different reasons why people feel that this business model, so let's take a look at a few of them.
Â
The first one is that you gave it five days and then quit. In this case, I can be 100 percent sure that you're going to fail. This is pretty straightforward and I've discussed it before, so I'm not going to get into this much more here. Let's keep going.
Â
For dropshipping to work, you need to have a good business model. I don't like the model of dropshipping in which you sell cheap items from China on AliExpress. People may make millions of dollars doing it that way, but you need a lot of experience with Facebook ads, paid ads, sales funnels, click funnels, and all tha...
How to Find the Best Dropshipping Suppliers
There are a number of different ways that you can find dropshipping suppliers. I'll cover four of them here. The first three are the easiest ones and are standard for most dropshippers. The fourth one is how I find my suppliers. So let's get started.
Number One: Wholesale Directories
This is an easy one. Literally, you can just google it. If you search for “dropship directory” you'll get a number of different sources that list these wholesalers. Five or six of them will pop up instantly. You can sign up for them, some free, and some not. Suppliers pay a fee to be part of the directory.
There are a lot of crappy suppliers on there, but you will find some good ones. There are a number of different directories that you could sign up for, but I don't highly recommend going down the directory route. Suppliers pay to be listed and you usually have to pay as well, so I'm not a big fan of the directories.
Number Two: SaleHoo
This isn't a bad...
I'm just going to state it up front: don't dropship apparel, okay? Let's take a look at why this is not a good idea.
Dropshipping apparel online isn't a good business model for several reasons. I'm not against selling apparel in general, and in fact, I personally have a clothing label that I've been working on for many years. If it's your passion, you should go for it, and be aware that it's a difficult thing to get right. I would not dropship apparel for profit, I would do it only for passion.Â
If you're just looking for a profitable business model, dropshipping apparel isn't likely to work out for you. There are a lot of issues that can and will arise, and dealing with them will eat into your profit margin and cause all kinds of headaches.
First, there's a very high return rate. When people buy clothing online they can't try it on, so they buy their usual sizes, but items listed as the same size often fit differently. So, if someone normally wears a large and they put your shirt o...
Let's take a look at the truth of what it actually costs to get a drop shipping store up and running. There are a number of costs that you may not be aware of, so I want to go over them so that you'll have a realistic picture about what you'll need to get started.
Dropshipping is probably one of the most affordable business models. You don't need tens of thousands of dollars up front to get started. But the truth is that it's not zero, it's not a hundred bucks, it's not even $200.
You're going to need a decent investment in the business to make it work successfully from the get-go. This will help you work towards the win instead of depending on that impossible instant win.
So let's take a look at those costs.
First, you need a domain name. You can get a domain for about $10, depending on the registrar you use. Then you can get started with Shopify for free for nine days, and hopefully you'll make a few sales in that time, but to build a store you'll need at least the minimum packa...
Today I'm going to be covering how to contact drop shipping suppliers. I'm going to tell you exactly how I do it, which isn't the way everyone else probably does, so let's get started.
I have a tried and true method for contacting dropshipping suppliers. I lock in most of my suppliers by doing it this way.
First of all, I make a supplier list. I'll list all the main manufacturers within my niche. Not suppliers, the manufacturers themselves. I'll reach out to them via email to find out who the best person is to talk to about opening up a new online account or a reseller's account. I keep this email really simple, along the lines of “Hey guys, could you please let me know who I need to contact to set up a new reseller's account? If you could get back to me ASAP, that'd be great.” I do that three days before I'm going to ring.
Next, I do always ring, always. If you want to make really good contacts, if you really want to build relationships, you need to call. Don't rely on the email. T...
Today we're going to be covering how to dropship profitably. There are so many different ways to dropship your products, and many of them work well, but I'm going to give you my top tips.
A lot of you already dropship through eBay or Amazon, and there are other platforms as well, like AliExpress. But for me, the best way to do it is to treat it like an actual real business. Find your own suppliers, build your own e-commerce site, advertise yourself via Google PLAs, AdWords Facebook. I know a lot of you do that with cheap products on AliExpress and other platforms, but I'm talking about running your business as if you had your own warehouse and factory and you're pumping out your own products directly.
So let's start at the beginning. I always use a platform called Shopify; I find it the easiest way to build a stunning site, no matter what you're selling. Next, it's important to have a niche. I don't really care what niche, but I really look for products that are between say 200 and a...
Today I want to talk about whether you should start out with dropshipping by using Oberlo.
I see the temptation of it. It's a popular platform right now. Everybody's going on about it, and it sounds like an easy way to get started. You can join Oberlo, go to AliExpress, find thousands upon thousands of products, and use Oberlo to just load up your store with basically any product you want.
You get to skip the work of contacting suppliers, locking in contracts and getting reseller accounts. So I can see the benefits of it and I understand why people get so excited about the concept. Maybe they want to try running their first store with this method.
I think at the end of the day it's just so that they can skip trying to lock in those suppliers. I understand the appeal of that, but there are quite a few negatives to using Oberlo and Aliexpress. By skipping that supplier process, you're then moving all of your operations offshore, which can have a lot of negative effects on your busine...
Today I want to talk about whether or not it is too late to get started dropshipping right here in Australia.
The short answer: it's absolutely not too late! It is time to get started right now. Anybody that tells you it's too late, it's oversaturated, it's already been done, doesn't know what they're talking about. Unlike America, all the suppliers haven't caught on to dropshipping. This gives us a massive opportunity to reach out, call these suppliers, and be the only ones online selling certain products.
There aren't massive dropshipping platforms here. There are a couple, like dropship zone, color-block, or a couple of others. But a lot of the suppliers or distributors in Australia are not ready for dropshipping.
We have the chance to bring them around our way of thinking and get started with them. We can be the first to sell their products and brands online.
Amazon has only just kicked off in Australia. Think about that: one of the biggest companies in the entire world has on...
Today I'm going to be talking about how dropshipping cheap AliExpress products with Facebook isn't really a real dropshipping business. Let me explain.
It is my belief that Aliexpress dropshipping with Facebook is just about selling one-off products, trying to find the angle, the niche, the product that's going to make you a million bucks. It's not a real business, at least in my opinion.
I know there are tons of people out there on the internet making big claims that they're making big bucks, and sure, it can be done. I'm not disputing that in any way, shape or form. You can treat it like a business but the thing with these products is that you're just always looking for the next big win.
You're not building an empire, you're not building a business up. You may be making a few bucks, but you're not building anything tangible or saleable. Let's take a look with an example of a brick-and-mortar business.
My brother and I used to run a direct sales and marketing company. We made t...
Why do most dropshippers fail? Why is it that a lot of people can't take it to the next level? Why do so many people get started and then quit? Let's talk about my five top reasons why most people generally quit or fail.
Number One: Quitting Too Early
If you kick off a dropshipping business, go for one week, with no sales and five hundred dollars spent on ads, you didn't really give it a proper go. You've got to give it three to twelve months, at least, to begin to build some momentum. This is a real business, this isn't a scheme to make some quick cash today. You can't just have a laugh, make some cash, and quit within five minutes.
Number Two: Bad Niche Selection
There are a lot of different niches and a lot of different reasons that they can fail. I do always say that any niche can work as long as you're willing to pay for it, so the idea is to narrow your focus and find a niche that isn't too competitive, especially when you're just starting out. If you're going to go into pet ...
