Drop Shipping in Australia - How Does It Work in 2022?

In this post, I'm going to outline a few key points about drop shipping, what it is and how you can get started with it. I will try not to be too technical but I would recommend that you research this subject a little more to get a better understanding.

Firstly I just want to mention this,

Drop shipping is not about 'getting rich quick' despite what some might say on places like Youtube and Instagram. It's just like any other business it takes hard work and dedication.

However having said that this business model is fantastic if you want to supplement your income to an existing full time job. You can also build it up into a full time income over time however again it require lots of work and effort upfront.

So what is drop shipping?

In a nutshell, drop shipping is where you buy from Australian wholesale suppliers and resell these products online to customers, thats drop shipping 101. It's a great opportunity if you want to be your own boss and work from home without having to worry about paying for product up front.

Further more the supplier handles all the warehousing of the products and the shipping when you make a sale on your store. This makes this business model an easy and stress-free one to get started with.

So how do make money with drop shipping?

So it's partly obvious, you sell products to your customers for a higher price than you bought it. It's essentially just like any other brick and mortar store.

The main difference with drop shipping is you never physically touch the item or hold the stock and your "shop front" is your website. Let me break down the process.

1. You advertise your products on your store via Facebook, Google or similar it on you Shopify store.

2. A customer buys an item on your store at the advertised retail price.

3. You place an order with you supplier (usually via their website)

4. You pay the supplier the agreed wholesale price for the item.

5. The supplier the processes the order and ships it out to you customer directly.

6. You keep the balance of what is left between the retail and wholesale prices eg, Retail price is $200 and the whole sale price is $150 you make a profit of $50...

Simple right!! So how do you get started?

1. Get a store - This can be done easily and free if you use Shopify, this is by far the easiest an in our opinion the best platfrom you use.

2. Find yourself a supplier - There are lots of wholesalers in Australia so I won't list them here but Google is your friend. Just search for wholesale suppliers and see who comes up and try to contact them via email or phone (some will not deal with new resellers)

3. Build your store & Domain Name- Connect your store to the suppliers you have found and start building up your product catalogues. You can also get a theme from the Shopify App store for free. (get a 14 day free trial here)

4. Start marketing - Search Facebook, Google and Instagram for groups that may be interested in what you are selling and start building up a following. You can also create a landing page for your products on Facebook or Google advertising to target potential customers searching for particular keywords.

5. Start making money - Watch the orders that come in and see your bank account start to grow as more and more sales start to come through.
